Students Training and Action for Neighbourhood Development (STAND)
STAND is an action programme meant to give a good exposure to students to rural life and involve them in poverty alleviation schemes. STAND is entrusted with the task of promoting education and skill among the rural poor and the under- privileged through a proper field level process of motivation. The students are taken to villages and made to work with the villagers.
They are made agents of educational motivation, awareness building, promotion of basic amenities in the villages, redeeming children from child labour, training the village youth and rendering all round developmental help. In brief, an attempt is made to give the people, a sense of self worth and self confidence to secure a decent future for them and for their children.
Until now the STAND programme has seen remarkable improvements and is further planning to strengthen the service to the downtrodden. STAND is presently implemented working in 22 villages of which about 60% of the people are dalits. The villages are within a radius of 30 Kms from the College and without even the basic amenities. Whichever village STAND enters to work, the people welcome the students with smiling faces and happiness in all their hearts and co-operate and participate to their best.
