The Department of Visual Communication was started in 2009 with the vision of catering to the needs of students in the Southern part of Tamil Nadu. Chennai Loyola being one of our sister concerns, we wanted to provide the same facilities and curriculum here at St Xavier’s College, making it possible for the students from this region to pursue their studies in Visual Communication. This is also to facilitate the needs and aspirations of rural students and help them get access to studying Visual Communication; the Department was started with the recommendations of the then Principal Rev Dr Alphonse Manickam SJ. This vision was carried out ably by Rev Dr Xavier Antony SJ., who was working with the Department of Folklore at that time and, he as the first HOD established it as a full fledged department. Rev Fr Infant Kingsley SJ., followed him and worked here as the Asst. Professor and Head for three years, establishing it further. At present Rev Dr A. Ignacy SJ., who has come from Loyola College, VisCom is heading the Department.
