About The Department

The Department of Commerce had its origin in 1968. “Competency with character” is our department motto. To inculcate our motto, the department has versatile personalities as faculty members. The autonomous status and College with Potential for Excellence (CPE) by UGC have facilitated the department to experiment the need based syllabi, innovative teaching methodology and innovative programmes at various stages.

The department offers conventional education and vocational education at UG level in aided and self-financing streams and M.Com programme in aided stream. The B.B.A and B.Com Corporate Secrataryship courses are the offshoots of the Department of Commerce. PGDCAB as additional course along with the regular B.Com and M.Com programmes. M.Phil in Commerce was started in the year 2008. The department was elevated as ‘Research Department’ in the year 2010. To give a practical exposure to the students in a real work environment our department has MOUs with different industries for providing on the job training to UG and internship training for PG students.

The Royal Commerce department has its loyal alumni found in all spheres of profession. They are the great inspirations to the present students and our alumni prove themselves to be precious assets to the department through their support in all our endeavours. The well-equipped computer lab with 65 independent systems with LCD facilities and the Entrepreneurial Development and Research Centre (EDRC) with latest audio visual gadgets and the Commerce Research Centre (CRC) are the added attractions of the department. The Research Journal, “Xaverian Journal of Marketing” is our academic and research reflector. The department celebrated its Ruby Jubilee (40th Year) in the year 2008 and the Golden jubilee during the academic year 2018-2019.
