ANTI-RAGGING COMMITTEE (ARC)

Objective

The objective of the Anti-Ragging Committee is to eliminate ragging in all its forms in the institution by prohibiting, preventing, and punishing acts of ragging, in accordance with the UGC Regulations on Curbing the Menace of Ragging in Higher Educational Institutions, 2009. The Committee is committed to ensuring a safe, healthy, and dignified learning environment for all students.

What Constitutes Ragging?

As per UGC Regulations, ragging includes any act or conduct by a student or group of students that causes physical, psychological, or emotional harm to a fresher or any other student. Ragging may take one or more of the following forms:

  • Teasing, treating, or handling a student with rudeness through words or actions.
  • Indulging in rowdy or indisciplined activities that cause fear, hardship, embarrassment, or harm.
  • Forcing a student to perform acts that cause shame, torment, or mental distress.
  • Disrupting or disturbing regular academic activities.
  • Exploiting a student to complete academic or personal tasks.
  • Financial extortion or forcing expenditure on a student.
  • Physical abuse, including sexual abuse, obscene acts, gestures, or bodily harm.
  • Verbal, written, electronic, or public abuse, including emails, messages, or online posts.
  • Any act affecting the mental health, dignity, or self-confidence of a student.

Administrative Action in the Event of Ragging

In the event of ragging, the institution shall take strict administrative action as per UGC Regulations, after due inquiry by the Anti-Ragging Committee. Depending on the nature and gravity of the offence, one or more of the following punishments may be imposed:

  • Suspension from classes and academic privileges
  • Withholding or withdrawal of scholarships or fellowships
  • Debarring from examinations or evaluation processes
  • Withholding of results
  • Suspension or expulsion from the hostel
  • Cancellation of admission
  • Rustication for one to four semesters
  • Expulsion from the institution and debarring from admission to any other institution for a specified period

Where the offenders are not identified, collective punishment may be imposed. Appeals against the punishment shall lie with the appropriate higher authority as prescribed by the Regulations. Disciplinary action shall also be initiated against staff members, if any lapse or negligence is established in preventing or addressing incidents of ragging.

Ragging in any form is a serious offence. Complaints can be sent to sxcprin@gmail.com or register at www.antiragging.in or call Toll Free: 1800 180 5522.
